Additional Information About The Resort & The Island
Weather and Climate
- Gran Canaria’s weather is mild,
with pleasant temperatures, rarely too high and almost always constant.
The average daytime temperatures in the summer months vary between 26
ºC and 28 ºC though they can climb to 30 °C (86 °F),
and in the winter months between 22 ºC and 24 ºC. The temperature
boxes shown at the top of the page are "live", i.e. these
are the temperatures right now.
Activities -
For those who have had enough of the beach there is loads of entertainment
and activities for all ages, including amusement arcades, mini-golf,
tennis, golf, scuba diving, skydiving, water parks, go-carting, horse
riding and camel riding. Water sports in Playa del Ingles include jet-skiing,
windsurfing and banana boat rides.
Shopping -
There is a fine choice of shops in Playa del Ingles where visitors can
indulge in some duty free delights. Shopping is mainly confined to the
dozen or so Commercial Centres rather than spread out along the roads.
Water Parks -
There are three water parks on Gran Canaria: Aqua Park in Puerto Rico,
and Ocean Park and Aqualand Aquasur, the largest on Gran Canaria, in
Maspalomas. All offer enough attractions to keep children and adults
amused all day, including dozens of slides and swimming pools. Aqualand
also has a wave machine and a 'lazy river' where visitors can float
around the complex on an inflatable tyre.
Reptile land
-Those with a soft spot for reptiles should
visit Reptilandia, situated a little off the beaten tack, near Agaete
in the northwest of the island. Crocodile Park
- This Crocodile Park is home to more than
300 crocodiles and alligators from all over the world. The other half
of the park is a zoo. The park is near the town of Aguímes, a
few miles southwest of Las Palmas airport. Golf -
There are four world-class golf courses on Gran Canaria.
Camel rides - One
of the most popular activities in the south of the island is a ride
around the Maspalomas Dunes on the back of a camel. Jeep Safaris -
The most spectacular scenery on the island can be found within the mountainous
interior around Mount Tejeda. Full-day tours can be organised in the
resorts and leave most days of the week.
Boat Trips
- Boat trips of all sorts can be arranged
from the resorts. In addition to cruising around the coast many boats
drop anchor and offer swimming, snorkelling and banana boat rides. Jet
skis and parasailing can also be arranged. The highlight of any cruise
is usually the sight of dolphins playing around the boat. Big
Game Fishing - Gran Canaria is one of the best spots
in the world for big game fishing and there are a number of companies
competing for business. Trips cost around €45 including all equipment,
but excluding lunch. Sioux City -
One of the most popular days out in Gran Canaria, Sioux city was built
originally as a stage set for an American western film in 1972, but
developed into a Wild West theme park.
Overview - Gran Canaria is one of the last European paradise isles. A continent in miniature it offers lush forests, exotic fauna and flora, Sahara like dunes, mountains, volcanic craters, sometimes snow on the highest peaks. Las Palmas is the most dynamic capital city in the Canaries. The island has incredibly beautiful coastlines and spectacular beaches. The resort of Playa Del Ingles is one of Europe's larger resorts. All amenities are easily accessible. If you want a holiday with easy access to everything then this is it! Playa del Ingles offers plenty of choice of nightclubs, restaurants and bars. The famous sand dunes of Masapalomas are just a 5 to 10 minute walk from our sea front apartment. There is a quieter beach 5 minutes in the opposite direction. The seafront is lined by the lovely pedestrian promenade (where our apartment is!), called the Paseo Costa Canaria and planted with lush gardens. The Canaries are Spanish owned islands. Gran Canaria is just 60 miles off the west coast of Africa. The islands enjoys a much better winter climate than the mediterranean, with minimal rainfall and plenty of sunshine and are, therefore, very popular all year round. The flying time from the UK to Gran Canaria is just over 4 hours.
